Texas STAAR Test Dates 2026-2027

Spring window, December EOC retests, makeup days, and what your kid takes when. Pulled from TEA's official 2026-2027 testing calendar.

The short answer

Spring STAAR 2027 is April 6 – April 23, 2027. Most grade-level tests fall in the first two weeks of that window. The December 2026 window is just for high-school EOC retests. Confirm the exact day for your kid's school — the school sets the specific date inside the state window.

Spring 2027 STAAR window (the big one)

  • April 6-7, 2027: STAAR Reading Language Arts — Grades 3, 4, 6, 7
  • April 8, 2027: STAAR Reading Language Arts — Grades 5, 8
  • April 13, 2027: STAAR Math — Grades 3, 4, 6, 7
  • April 14, 2027: STAAR Math — Grades 5, 8
  • April 20, 2027: STAAR Science — Grades 5, 8
  • April 21, 2027: STAAR Social Studies — Grade 8
  • April 6-23, 2027: High-school End-of-Course exams (Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, U.S. History) — schools pick the day

Schools have flexibility within the window to pick the exact day. Yours will send home a notice ~2-4 weeks before with the specific date.

December 2026 EOC window (high school only)

  • December 1-18, 2026: End-of-Course retests for students who didn't pass in spring

Grades 3-8 don't test in December. If your kid is in grade 3-8 and a teacher mentions a December test, it's a district benchmark or interim assessment, not STAAR.

Makeup days

If your kid is sick or absent on test day, the school will schedule a makeup within the test window (usually 2-5 school days after the original date). TEA requires that all makeups be completed before the window closes on April 23, 2027.

How to prep with the time you have left

As of , you have ~11 months until Spring 2027 STAAR. Three things to do, in order of impact:

  1. Pull last year's STAAR score report and find the weakest reporting strand. That's where 70% of practice time should go.
  2. Set a 15-20 minute daily practice routine — daily short beats long weekend sessions by a wide margin. Free TEKS-aligned worksheets here.
  3. Make the test format familiar. Multi-select, grid-in, and hot-spot questions don't show up in regular homework — kids who've seen them score better.

Where TEA publishes the official dates

TEA updates the official testing calendar at tea.texas.gov. Search for "Student Assessment Testing Calendar." Dates can shift by a day or two between TEA's announcement and the start of the school year — always confirm against your district's printed calendar.
